Hope is Always Within Reach

Stephen and Joyce Hasper, Legacy of Hope Society members.“You have cancer.” The moment I heard the words, my life changed in ways I never expected.

When I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, I described my experience as shock, confusion, pain, adventure and beauty.

The shock and confusion were real for me, my wife Joyce and our family. Treatment was not easy. Joyce became my caregiver, and together, we moved forward one day at a time.

“Hope” was our favorite word even before I was told I had cancer. It became the word that carried us forward. City of Hope® kept me alive. I received an autologous stem cell transplant in 2015. It gave me the gift of time and a high quality of life with my wife, my children and my grandkids.

We are deeply grateful to our family, friends and the team at City of Hope who cared for us every step of the way.

Every day, physicians and researchers continue advancing discoveries that bring new possibilities to families like ours. The care and support services available across City of Hope locations made a huge difference throughout our journey.

City of Hope has meant so much to our lives that we chose to include a gift to them in our legacy plans. It felt like a natural way to help ensure future patients and their loved ones have the same opportunities we did.
